Aloha Tower welcomes second NEVI-funded EV charging station

Nov 25, 2024

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation recently opened the state’s second electric vehicle (EV) charging station funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. The $3.5 million station, located at the Aloha Tower Marketplace on Oʻahu, features four 150-kilowatt direct current fast chargers with CCS and CHAdeMO connectors. Plans are in place to add North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors. At this time, EVs utilizing NACS will need an adapter.

The newest chargers are available 24-hours a day and cost $0.44 per kWh from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and $0.57 per kWh from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Idle fees are applied to encourage charger availability once an EV reaches 100% state of charge. There will be a five-minute grace period before idle fees start incurring. Payments can be made via the EV Connect App or by credit card.

This initiative builds on the success of the Aloha State’s first NEVI-funded station in Kahului, Maui, which has delivered over 6,800 charging sessions and significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions. These stations advance Hawaiʻi’s leadership in sustainable transportation, aligning with state and national climate goals.
