New law increases availability of commercial EV charging station rebates
Nov 28, 2022
Great news, Hawaii! Your business or multi-unit dwelling may be eligible for a rebate toward installing new or retrofitted Level 2 and DC fast-charging stations.
Passed by the Hawaii Legislature, Senate Bill 2720 CD1 was recently signed into law by Gov. Ige as Act 202 — modifying the state’s existing electric vehicle charging system (EVCS) program to include charging station installation at commercial facilities and multi-unit dwellings. There is $650,000 available in funding for eligible installation of new or retrofitted Level 2 and DC fast-charging stations. In addition to the state funding, Ulupono Initiative previously provided funding to make rebates available for affordable housing developments on Kauai.
“By partnering on a new affordable housing bonus incentive, we are helping to increase the number of EV charging stations and make charging more accessible to members of our community statewide,” said Greg Gaug, Ulupono’s senior vice president of investments and analytics.
With EV ownership and demand increasing, this is the perfect opportunity to apply for the rebate if you are planning to (or have recently) installed an EV charging station at your business or multi-unit dwelling. The new law was designed to encourage more business owners and property owners to install and upgrade EVCS installations across the state to increase the number of public charging options. We encourage you to review the application deadlines to see if your station qualifies for funding.
