Meet our ohana: Erin Roh

Erin Roh, Ulupono Initiative’s communications and community specialist, is responsible for managing the organization’s social media strategy, planning and implementation.

“Being able to work beyond my field of expertise and really delve into the different sectors of need in Hawaii is really a unique opportunity,” says Erin, of her duties at Ulupono Initiative. “Every day is a new challenge and learning experience, and I cannot wait to see the impact of our work that Ulupono continuously contributes for the community in the future."

Prior to joining Ulupono Initiative, Erin’s most recently worked as a digital communications and social media specialist for Hawaiian Electric, building and growing social media engagement for the company’s utilities on Oahu, Maui and the island of Hawaii through customer service, content and increased engagement. She optimized content on all social media platforms; generated, published and shared daily content; created strategies improving the overall performance of social media efforts; provided training to employees on social media policies and guidelines; and executed social media campaigns to connect with Hawaiian Electric’s customer base.

As a social media specialist and translator at Honolulu-based AT Marketing, Erin provided editorial copy translations in Korean for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s seasonal issues and leveraged data to reveal current insights and trends in the growing market for social media. She also developed her production experience as an associate producer at Anthology Group, a production assistant at Hawaii Public Television Foundation, a production assistant/producer at CJ E&M: Mnet America, a producer for the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea in Seoul, and a camera operator at Kitay Productions Inc. in Boston. Erin’s diverse experience also includes serving as web content writer for MySecretBoston.com, and fiscal analyst for the Hawaii State Legislature House of Representatives.

Erin earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Shidler College of Business, and a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism, with a concentration in broadcast and a minor in international relations, at Boston University’s College of Communication. She has volunteered her time as a moderator and speaker for UH Manoa’s Center for Korean Studies Outreach Committee and donates her time to the River of Life Mission in Honolulu.
