Join the Multimodal Movement

Jan 30, 2023

Ulupono Initiative this month kicked off a new Multimodal Monday series on KITV’s Island Life program. Throughout the year, stories featured in the series will highlight the benefits of using multimodal transportation choices, such as a bus, bicycle and rideshare, among others.  Viewers will see how everyday multimodal transportation users go about their day without driving a car and how it wasn’t difficult making the choice, which helps to reduce carbon emissions and traffic. Another major benefit of not owning a car: saving money on gas and maintenance. The average household’s cost of owning a car in Hawaii is $40,600 per year.

In this first installment in the series, Kalihi resident Bryan Munoz talks about how riding the bus is part of his lifestyle and, most of all, how it’s easy! Meanwhile, Jon Nouchi, deputy director of the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services, explains how TheBus is convenient and shares the great initiatives the city bus system will soon be rolling out to better serve Honolulu’s riders.

Transportation Choices

Ulupono Initiative has partnered with Blue Planet Foundation and The Sustainable Transportation Coalition of Hawaii (STCH) to develop a Transportation Choices resource page on sustainable, convenient and accessible transportation choices in Hawaii. These types of choices help Hawaii residents reduce their environmental impact, support healthier living, improve safety, and help reduce individual and collective transportation costs. Learn more >>
